are you. . . ?

The Million Uke March is looking for 1,000,000 pickers and grinners, strummers and hummers (that's a small h) and ukaholics of all shapes, stripes and stars to raise your sopranos, concerts, tenors, pineapples, fleas, flukes, banjoleles, box-a-leles and yes, even those baritones, and show your support for an Obama victory in the 2008 Presidential election.

Founding strummer and, for want of a better bunch of letters, CEO: Sylvie Simmons (pictured in Hawaii with her uke). Sylvie is a London-born, San Francisco-based, rock journalist, author and ukaholic. Although deeply in love with all things American, she can't cast a ballot in the US election, being a Brit, but, like she says, "I sure can strum". Learn more about Sylvie here or here.

But more importantly, click on over to the MUM Myspace page to hear Sylvie's Million Ukes for Obama anthem - and join the virtual March.

Here's how to join:

  • Post a photo of yourself, or your friends or your family or your pet with your uke.
  • If you're shy or worried about your mystique, just post a picture of your uke.
  • Post a video of a uke-related nature - musical, theatrical, solo or in a group.
  • Send us your Obama-friendly uke songs.
  • Leave your name, email and message.
  • Just leave your name.
  • Send us links to your own favorite uke or Obama site.

Already marching with Sylvie:
  • Deputy strummer: Stephen 'Stevie B' Becker, former museum director and curator of the San Francisco Ukulele Festival. Now works for the Sierra club.
  • Website wizard: Brad Johnson, Sierra clubber, radical community organiser and motorcylist. This is his first website (since High School, anyway).
  • Our Ohana: UFO: the Ukulele Friends of Marin.
  • Are you next?
